We are requesting and encouraging businesses within our 11-county region to complete a COVID-19 impact survey whose results will help us at SEDA-Council of Governments (SEDA-COG) further respond to the needs of businesses during this time.
The survey was originally developed to gauge the impact of the pandemic on overall business operations. The survey will provide further insight on if and how businesses have adjusted. It is essential to capture this type of data to assist businesses in our region and continue fostering our local economy.
We encourage all businesses to respond regardless of past survey participation.
The survey takes less than 10 minutes to complete, and businesses are asked to complete the survey by April 30, 2022.
On Tuesday, May 10, 2022, from 9-10 a.m., SEDA-COG and the American Red Cross are partnering to host an Emergency Action Plan training session, light refreshments will be served. This event will be held at the Central PA Chamber of Commerce, 30 Lawton Lane Milton, PA 17847. Registration is required for this event. During the pandemic, it was discovered that 40 percent of businesses fail following a disaster. With the use of ReadyRating.org, this training will provide the tools for non-profits, businesses of all sizes, and more to become equipped to face any kind of emergencies.
This in-person workshop delivers the means and the contacts for businesses to work at their own pace to upgrade their level of preparedness. There are tools to enhance already existing emergency plans and to build plans from scratch.
“It’s important to prepare for possible emergencies because they can strike suddenly at any time and any place. There are three steps everyone can take that can help make a difference: be prepared, get connected, and take action,” states the Emergency Preparedness Guide from the American Red Cross.

SEDA-COG’s Housing Rehabilitation program is expanding their search net for qualified individuals to perform improvements on homes in the City of Shamokin. The search is open by trade sector, seeking electricians, HVAC specialists, general contractors, and plumbers.
General contractor work may primarily include roofing and carpentry related tasks.
Total housing rehabilitation projects typically range from $20,000 to $65,000, with timely payment to contractors.
“The City of Shamokin and SEDA-COG strive to work with regional professionals to invest in the local economy”, said Teri Provost, director of SEDA-COG’s Housing Rehabilitation program.
“Not only do these grant awards benefit the community and homeowners, but the local economy as we seek to work with locals to perform this work,” Provost said. “Additionally, our work is year-round, so we offer a steady flow of projects,” said Provost.
Interested parties also have the option of meeting one-on-one with SEDA-COG to answer any questions they may have. SEDA-COG streamlines the process for contractors with a rehabilitation specialist assigned to each community.
